As much as I loved the Scanned trailer from a “hardcore” fan perspective, I can see where Dani is coming from in saying that it might be a little much for those unfamiliar with the back fiction and that it didn’t do a good job of hyping the game up. I believe the live action trailer did a much better job in hyping the game, and I hope Dani agrees :p

I agree with Slightly Live about the Scanned trailer. It was nice but did not really get me fired up for the game. I have much enjoyed the Travis books with the possible exception of her handling of the Halsey vs Mendez fight. It too much goes against the grain of the previous fiction.

I agree that the trailer was a bit much for people who may not know more than the games or are new to the games. As a fan, I did like the trailer overall and it was nice to see aspects of the history of Master Chief but it can be a bit confusing.

While I like learning more about the Forerunners in the Greg Bear books, I wish that there was more information on the Covenant races in the expanded universe. The focus on Kilo-Five is understood, but I would like to see a series devoted to the shattered Covenant. Perhaps by allowing a series to focus on those races, less time would have to be set aside in the Kilo-Five series.

what is this rumor about an extended version of the trailer? This is the first I have heard about that. It would be cool tho, I really liked the trailer.

Just that, a rumor. Nothing’s come out since its release, so I’d be there isn’t one. Only so much money to give to Fincher 😛

One thing I would like to bring up is that, when you guys were talking about how reliant the Covenant were on the Engineers, and Postmortem(?) suggested that the reliance on the Engineers was kept from most of the Covenant.

That was established in Contact Harvest, not the Halo Wars timeline.

I think we’re talking about two different points. Contact Harvest established that the Engineers were a precious commodity on ships not part of the main fleet–depriving the Brutes of one was to make sure they “stayed in their place”. The Halo Wars timeline, IIRC, makes specific mention of the Prophets hiding the nature of the advancements and new tech they doled out–much of it by the Huragok’s doing, as opposed to their own knowledge. I could be entirely misremembering the Contact Harvest bit and grafting it into Halo Wars, for all I know–I’ll try and find a source. Thanks!
